About The Author

Monica Payton is a author on a mission. With two novels, Black Deception and Cloning—both cutting edge medical fiction thrillers,—a screenplay adaptation based on the two coming soon, and a recent article titled DNA, Race and a New Era in Medicine, publication release September 2006, in the JAAPA, Journal of American Academy of Physician Assistants, Monica is determined to stake her claim in the literary arena as one of the most up and coming proliferic authors in the Inland Empire, a suburan community just east of Los Angeles, California, where Monica currently resides.

Monica Payton is a licensed surgical physician assistant who practices in plastic and reconstructive surgery by day, and studies law by night. Her facination with biotechnology, DNA research and the many social, legal and ethical issues on these topics has taken her career to new heights. Her wildest dream will find her in a career combining both medicine and law, with a biomedical legal research team. But now, Monica is focused on spinning the final chapter to her exciting triology, Unleashed, and passing the California Bar in the distant future.

Cloning, a sequel and the recipient of an award at the Los Angeles Black Book Expo, was presented to concert goers at the 14th Annual Jazz at Drew, October 2004. This followed her literary debut with Black Deception whose premise is based on a gene therapy experiment. This dynamic speaker celebrated National DNA Day by organizing and facilitating an open community forum panel discission titled, DNA, Social Justice and You. Local community members, genetic counselors and research specialists gathered together in Los Angeles to learn about the Human Genome Project, DNA testing in African Americans, prostate cancer and address issues sorrounding the latest research.

Between studying law and work, Monica still manages to travel coast to coast on book tours, autograph signings, and speaking engagements, though her favorite topic is the Human Genome Project. She has delivered riveting guest appearances on numerous radio interviews featured in RTIR, Radio Television Interview Report, including local stations in New York, New Jersey, Cleveland, Ohio, Philadelphia, Texas, and several guest appearances on the popular Los Angeles radio station KJLH and 100.3 The Beat

During her sixteen years as a physician assistant, Monica has had the opportunity to assist in open heart surgery, brain surgery, manage challenging emergency room and intensive care patients, deliver hundreds of babies, as well as counsel infertile couples. Monica wishes to encourage everyone she knows to stand up, challenge themselves, and pursue his or her dreams.
