Barbara
Jean Satterfield is a veteran elementary
school educator of twenty-five years.
Her book, Tomias The Cat
has captivated young audiences since
it was released December 2002. She holds
a lifetime teaching credential with
The Los Angeles Unified School District,
where literally decades of children
have enjoyed listening to her read many
stories that she has written.
Barbara believes “We need to stir up the creativity in every child. It's
in there, but today we give children things ready made. Today's children are
not from the paper bag era and are not aware of the important transitions history
has delivered to our society. Everything is so battery operated and electrically
powered that there is little room for their simple imagination.” According
to Mrs. Satterfield, “We may have lost something in this time pressured
electronic cooker.” She has said several times, “we need to give
them a blank page again. I know that there is an imaginative closet in our children
that we should open and explore. Sometimes I wonder if we are in danger of loosing
a piece of history that has once helped to foster some of the simple fundamentals
of integrity and character.”
Barbara is a wife, mother of three daughters and grandmother of the three lovely
children. As a parent and teacher she sees the importance of allowing room for
children to explore. She has also taught in Sunday school, park school and public
school over twenty years. With all that in mind, Barbara Satterfield certainly
has had a bird's eye view of children's activity.
